COLORADO SPRINGS, CO  — The NFHCA Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Teresa Mathews, Assistant Coach at Muhlenberg College, as the new NCAA Associate/Assistant Coach Representative on the NFHCA Board of Directors, effectively immediately.

Mathews will serve the remaining year of former board member Tamara Durante’s term after Durante resigned her position in February following her promotion to head coach at Michigan State University. Mathews will be eligible for re-election to a full three-year term next February.

“I am so excited to be joining the Board and can continue to serve the coaching community. I believe that service is the cornerstone of the NFHCA’s ability to thrive and I am honored to have the opportunity to bring my perspective as an assistant coach across divisions to the Board of Directors.” shared Mathews.

Mathews has been actively involved in the NFHCA over the past five years, serving on multiple committees including the Ad Hoc Strategic Planning Committee, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, and the Nominating Committee. Her appointment reflects the association’s continued commitment to leadership development and representation across all coaching levels and divisions.

“Teresa has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to service, collaboration, and the advancement of the sport,” said Cate Clark, Executive Director of the NFHCA. “Her experiences across collegiate divisions, combined with her engagement within the association, make her a valuable addition to the Board of Directors.”

Mathews joined the field hockey coaching staff at Muhlenberg College for the 2023 season, bringing more than a decade of experience as both a player and coach at the Division I level.

Prior to Muhlenberg, Mathews served as associate head coach at Lehigh University in 2022, helping guide the Mountain Hawks to a Patriot League championship and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance. She also previously served as a volunteer assistant and graduate assistant coach at Lehigh while earning her master’s degree in mental health counseling and human services.

Her coaching experience also includes stops at St. Francis University and Northeastern University, along with extensive involvement as a club field hockey coach.

As a goalkeeper at Monmouth University, Mathews helped lead the Hawks to back-to-back Northeast Conference championship appearances. She graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Mathews will begin her term as the NCAA Associate/Assistant Coach Representative immediately.
