NFHCA names Kean University’s Jenna Flemings 2023 Division III National Scholar-Athlete

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Jenna Flemings, a fifth-year goalkeeper at Kean University, has been honored as this year’s NFHCA Division III National Scholar-Athlete.

The distinction is bestowed annually upon the Division III All-American with the highest cumulative grade-point average through the fall semester of the current academic year. Flemings achieved an outstanding 3.94 GPA.

She started every game and played every minute (1211:20) this past season for 14-6 Kean, leading the Cougars to the Division III Final Four, making 136 saves and posting a 1.19 goals-against average for the season.

Recognizing her exceptional contributions both on and off the field, Flemings has received numerous accolades, such as selection to the NCAA Division III Championship All-Tournament Team, NFHCA Division III First Team All-American, NFHCA Division III Regional IV First Team (and Regional IV Player of the Year), NJAC Goaltender of the Year for the third consecutive season, All-NJAC First Team, ECAC All-Star, and Synapse Sports First-Team All-American.

Flemings has earned additional recognition for her academic achievements, including the NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and NFHCA National Academic Squad.

She is the second student-athlete from Kean University to receive the National Scholar-Athlete award. Lia DiPiazza was recognized with the honor in 2021.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
