NFHCA announces 2023 NFHCA Division I Regional Players of the Year
GENEVA, N.Y. — Five student-athletes were selected to represent their respective region as the NFHCA Division I Regional Player of the Year. Each regional award winner is now in the running for NFHCA Division I National Player of the Year honors.
Mid-Atlantic Region
Iris Langejans, Rutgers University, Sr., Defender (Almelo, Netherlands)
- Named to NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region, First Team
- Big Ten Player of the Year
- Unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten
- Named to the NFHCA Senior Team
- Started all 20 games on defense while finishing with one goal and six assists
Mideast Region
Caroline Ramsey, Cornell University, Sr., Midfielder (Morristown, New Jersey)
- Named to NFHCA Division I Mideast Region, First Team
- Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year
- Unanimous All-Ivy League First Team
- Ivy League All-Tournament Team
- Finished the season with a team leading 24 goals
- Ranked second in the country for goals (28), goals per game (1.41), points (54), and points per game (3.18)
Northeast Region
Bronte-May Brough, Harvard University, So., Defender (Uttoxeter, England)
- Named to NFHCA Division I Northeast Region, First Team
- Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year
- All-Ivy League First Team
- Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 2) and NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 4)
- Anchored a defense that finished the season with a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League
South Region
Ryleigh Heck, University of North Carolina, So., Forward (Ocean City, New Jersey)
- Named to NFHCA Division I South Region, First Team
- All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) First Team
- ACC Tournament MVP
- NCAA All-Tournament Team
- Scored the deciding goal in the NCAA Championship game to give UNC the 2-1 double overtime shootout win
- Led UNC in scoring with 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists
West Region
Lauren Wadas, Northwestern University, Sr., Midfielder (Annville, Pennsylvania)
- Named to NFHCA Division I West Region, First Team
- Unanimous All-Big Ten First-Team
- NCAA All-Tournament Team
- Scored eight goals this season, including one each in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament
- Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 2)
The NFHCA Division I Regional Player of the Year announcement is the second in a list of postseason awards from the NFHCA. Last week the 2023 NFHCA Division I All-Region teams were announced. The Division I NFHCA All-American teams will be announced on December 12 and the NFHCA Division I National Player of the Year on December 15.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
