GILBERT, Ariz. — Six staffs have been recognized as their region’s 2019 Spiideo/NFHCA Coaching Staff of the Year.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) officially recognizes each institution’s field hockey coaches but acknowledges all of the important staff members that make each program successful.

Great Lakes

Centre College
Jenelle Anthony Downs, Olivia Shagam
  • Anthony Downs named Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Coach of the Year
  • Set program record for most wins in a season with a 18-1 record
  • Clinched second SAA Tournament Championship
  • Reached highest NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll ranking in program history
  • Savannah Elpers named 2019 SAA Offensive Player of the Year
  • Caroline Brotzge named 2019 SAA Defensive Player of the Year and First Point USA/NFHCA Great Lakes Region Player of the Year
  • This is Centre’s fourth Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year award

New England East

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Cheryl Silva, Katherine Cotton, Sarah Fay, Becca Shaw, Katherine Stoll
  • Silva named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year
  • 2019 NEWMAC Champions
  • Devon Goetz named the NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player and NEWMAC Athlete of the Year
  • Taylor Grey named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Year
  • Paige Forester named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year
  • Advanced to the NCAA tournament quarterfinals for the second time in program history
  • This is MIT’s fifth New England East Region Coaching Staff of the Year award

New England West

Middlebury College
Katharine DeLorenzo, Rachel Palumbo, Andrea Way
  • DeLorenzo named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Coach of the Year
  • Won third-straight 2019 NESCAC Championship
  • Katie George was named 2019 NESCAC Rookie of the Year
  • Erin Nicolas was named 2019 NESCAC Player of the Year, 2019 National Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and 2019 First Point USA/NFHCA New England West Region Player of Year
  • Earned third-straight NCAA Division III National Championship
  • This is Middlebury’s fourth New England West Region Coaching Staff of the Year award

North Atlantic

SUNY Geneseo
