Member Spotlight: Jaime Ginsberg Champions Service

By Cassidy Strittmatter, NFHCA Digital Communications Team
Northampton, MA — With nineteen seasons, Jaime Ginsberg has guided the Smith College field hockey program with intention, energy, and a deep commitment to student-athlete development. Throughout her tenure, she has led the Bears to nine postseason appearances, including an NCAA Second Round appearance and a NEWMAC Conference Championship. As a result, her leadership continues to shape both her program and the broader field hockey community.
Before entering the collegiate ranks, Ginsberg made her mark at the high school level from 2001–2007, serving as head coach at The George School and Friends Select School. She spent three seasons leading each program and established herself as a thoughtful educator and competitor early in her coaching career.
Giving Back to the Game
Today, however, Ginsberg’s influence extends well beyond the sidelines. In addition to coaching, she serves as a regional chair for the NFHCA Division III All-American Committee and contributes to the NFHCA Field Hockey Forward Advisory Committee. Through these leadership roles, she helps elevate recognition for student-athletes while also supporting initiatives designed to grow the sport at the collegiate level.
Through the Field Hockey Forward Advisory Committee, Ginsburg collaborated with fellow coaches this past year on the development of the Collegiate Coach Operations Handbook, a practical resource created to support new college coaches and those launching new field hockey programs. The guide provides insight into program management and operational best practices to help coaches navigate the early stages of building or leading a collegiate program.
When asked what inspires her to volunteer with the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), Ginsberg emphasized the importance of representation.
“I think representation is important,” she said. “To be able to advocate for my conference and fellow coaches through committee work feels like a meaningful way to give back.”
Lessons in Leadership
That commitment has also shaped how she approaches leadership within the profession. Through her committee work, Ginsberg has gained a deeper appreciation for collaboration and advocacy across the coaching community.
“The work on the All-American Committee has shown me how important clear communication and advocacy are so every athlete has the best chance to be recognized,” she said.
Ginsberg also credits much of her professional growth to the many coaches she has worked alongside throughout her career, viewing each shared sideline as an opportunity to learn.
“Each of them leading and sharing their lens and perspective with me has given me knowledge that spans the spectrum of the many hats we wear as coaches,” she said. “I truly carry many lessons learned from them with me and am grateful for the time I spent alongside them.”
Likewise, Ginsberg encourages fellow coaches to become involved in professional service and leadership opportunities. She believes the collective efforts of coaches across the country ultimately strengthen the sport and improve the experience for student-athletes.
“The time commitment comes in pockets, but the impact is lasting,” she said. “Get involved—take a turn. When more coaches step up, we strengthen our sport and create better experiences for our student-athletes.”
Ultimately, Ginsberg’s career reflects the spirit of the coaching profession: leadership, service, and a commitment to continuous growth. Through her work at Smith College and her contributions to the NFHCA community, she continues to help move field hockey forward.
