Horner, Pique named NFHCA Division III National Players of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y. — Junior defender from No. 15 York College of Pennsylvania, Sara Pique, and first-year forward from No. 1 Salisbury University, McKenna Horner, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division III Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week sponsored by ScoreBreak, respectively. The performance of No. 13 Bowdoin College’s senior forward, Faith Jennings, merited an honorable mention.

NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week

 

Sara Pique, No. 15 York College of Pennsylvania, Jr., Defender (Levittown, Pennsylvania)

  • Led York to a pair of shutout efforts during the 2-0 week for the Spartans
  • Allowed just one shot in the 5-0 conference win vs Hood College
  • Anchored the defensive efforts in the 8-0 conference win vs Eastern University
  • Limited Eastern to just two shots
  • Scored her second goal of the season against Eastern
  • These two shutouts give the Spartans 11 on the season, beating the previous school record of nine
  • Named MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week

NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week

 

McKenna Horner, No. 1 Salisbury University, Fr., Forward (Deal Island, Maryland)

  • Scored all three goals to lead then-No. 3 Salisbury to a 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten and then-No. 1 Rowan University
  • Scored the game-winner with 35 seconds left in the contest
  • Horner’s hat trick was the third multi-goal game of her career and first career hat trick
  • Salisbury University remains the only unbeaten team in Division III
  • Named C2C Offensive Player of the Week

Faith Jennings, No. 13 Bowdoin College, Sr., Forward (Ghent, New York)

  • Racked up 10 points on eight assists and a goal in a 2-0 NESCAC week for Bowdoin
  • Scored the game’s first goal and set a Bowdoin school record with five assists in the 8-2 win over Colby College
  • Assisted on three more goals in the 5-1 win over Wesleyan University
  • Leads Bowdoin with 25 points this season
  • Named NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey.
