Vera, Lala named NFHCA August Scholastic Players of the Month

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Lilli Vera, a junior midfielder/forward from Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Morgan Lala, a sophomore goalkeeper from Christian Academy, in Louisville, Kentucky, have been named the August Scholastic Players of the Month.

Vera led the state of Michigan in scoring in August, totaling an impressive 15 goals and three assists across five games, leading her team to a 5-0 record for the month. Her shots on goal resulted in a 45% success rate for goals per shot and she scored half of her teams goals in August.

With a 4-1 team record in August, Lala faced 57 shots and tallied 54 saves across five games for an incredible 95% save percentage. She also recorded an amazing 26 saves in one game alone, resulting in a shutout against the defending Kentucky state champions.

Honorable Mentions

Mia DiGiulio, a senior midfielder/forward from La Costa Canyon High School, Carlsbad, California, and Ava Rossman, a senior forward from Patrick Henry High School, Ashland, Virginia, received honorable mention nods for the month.

With six goals and six assists across four games in August, DiGiulio was the driving force behind the Mavericks’ 4-0 start to their season.

Meanwhile, Rossman netted 11 goals and tallied five assists in the month of August across four games, helping her team with a 3-1 start to the season. She opened the campaign by notching her team’s first seven goals of the season.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
