GILBERT, Ariz. — Two student-athletes were selected to represent their respective region as the First Point USA/NFHCA Division II Regional Player of the Year.

Atlantic Region Player of the Year

Katie Thompson, West Chester University, Sr., Forward (Washington, New Jersey)

Thompson, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year, has been named the First Point USA/NFHCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year after a successful season with the 2019 NCAA National Champion, West Chester University.

Thompson led the Golden Rams in all offensive categories — goals (22), assists (18), and points (63). She was second in the nation in goals and points and led the country in assists. Thompsons’s goalscoring abilities helped lead West Chester to the program’s third NCAA Division II National Championship. Yesterday, she was named a 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division II First Team All-American.

East Region Player of the Year

Laura van der Doorn, Southern New Hampshire University, Sr., Forward (Beverwijk, The Netherlands)

Van der Doorn has been named the First Point USA/NFHCA East Region Player of the Year after a record-breaking season with the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen.

Van der Doorn was recognized as the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) Player of the Year — the first in program history — while also being named to the All-NE10 First Team. Van der Doorn finishes her SNHU career with 89 points, 36 goals, 17 assists, and 9 game-winning goals, setting school records in each category. Yesterday, she was named a 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division II First Team All-American.

The First Point USA/NFHCA Division II Regional Player of the Year announcement is the second in a list of postseason awards from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The final award, the 2019 First Point USA/NFHCA Division II National Player of the Year, will be announced on December 16, 2019.
