Skubisz, Smisdom named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week
BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Sophomore goalkeeper from No. 5 Northwestern University, Annabel Skubisz, and freshman midfielder the University at Albany, Alison Smisdom, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively. The performance of Lizzie Hamlett from No. 8 Liberty University, merited an honorable mention this week.
NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week
Annabel Skubisz, No. 5 Northwestern University, So., Goalkeeper (Houston, Texas)
- Led the Wildcats to back-to-back victories to close out the regular season, including their first win over a No. 1 team in program history
- Faced 10 shots (six on goal) and recorded five saves in Northwestern’s 2-1 win over No. 1 University of Iowa on Friday
- Made two saves and did not allow a goal in three quarters of action in Northwestern’s 6-0 shutout victory versus Indiana on Sunday
- Named Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week
NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week
Alison Smisdom, University at Albany, Fr., Midfielder (Edegem, Belgium)
- Tallied 10 offensive points on five goals last week for the Great Danes
- Scored five of Albany’s seven goals against conference opponents last week
- Recorded her second career hat trick and the game winner against University of California, Davis
- On Sunday, scored both Albany goals including the game-winning goal in overtime against University of California, Berkeley
- Named America East Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Honorable Mention
Lizzie Hamlett, No. 8 Liberty University, Sr., Midfielder (Fredericksburg, Virginia)
- Scored both goals in No. 8 Liberty’s 2-1 win over No. 15 Old Dominion University, awarding the Flames the outright BIG EAST regular-season title
- After her first goal tied the game, she scored again in the final minute on a rebound to help the Flames secure the victory and their first BIG EAST crown
- Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
