Samantha Ekstrand set to speak at Virtual Coaches’ Caucus

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is thrilled to announce the final featured speaker for the 2021 Virtual Coaches’ Caucus.

Samantha Ekstrand, legal counsel for the NFHCA as well as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and co-founder of the law firm Ekstrand & Ekstrand, will present “Coaching During COVID.”

Sport has taught us all how to adjust and power through adversity, with 2020-21 serving as the most outstanding, universal challenge we have seen in our lifetime. Join Samantha to look at best practices for coaching during this pandemic, including ways to mitigate risk, how to create a healthy and fun playing environment, return to play, managing expectations, potential impact on your contract, and how to understand clearly your role, responsibilities, and limits.

Samantha Ekstrand

Samantha Ekstrand was named the IWLCA Legal Counsel in 2009 and has been working with the NFHCA since March 2020. Ekstrand co-founded the law firm Ekstrand & Ekstrand in 2002 and oversees the management of the firm, evaluates prospective cases, advises on case strategy, drafts and reviews contracts, and prepares simple wills and trusts.

Ekstrand received her J.D. from Duke Law School, and received an M.A. in History from Duke University. While at Duke, she worked as a staff editor for the Duke Law Journal, and served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Duke University women’s lacrosse team.

Ekstrand earned her B.A. in History and Government cum laude from Dartmouth College.

2021 Virtual Coaches’ Caucus

The Virtual Coaches’ Caucus (VCC) is slated to be a dynamic, online gathering of NFHCA members and field hockey coaches. The VCC will incorporate NFHCA business meetings, educational sessions, a variety of speakers, awards ceremonies, and opportunities for attendees to connect with their field hockey colleagues.

The VCC will take place between January 5 — 10, 2021, with professional development components mainly taking place on January 9 and 10. NFHCA members can register online.
