MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Kutztown University senior defender Sarah Gatehouse has been named this year’s NFHCA Division II National Scholar-Athlete. This is the second year in a row she has been bestowed this prestigious honor. Majoring in Sport Management, she maintained an excellent 4.0 grade point average while helping to lead the Bears to their first-ever Division II National Championship this past fall.

The NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete honor is presented annually to the Division II All-American who earns the highest cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the current academic year.

Gatehouse is a two-time NFHCA First Team All-American and was voted the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Year, along with being named to the All-PSAC First Team for the second straight season. She was the backbone of a Kutztown defense that finished first in the conference and the nation in goals allowed (11) and goals against average (.497), starting all 22 games at center back.

She ranked second on the Kutztown squad in points (19) and assists (5) and was fourth in goals scored (7). Gatehouse also received the PSAC Champion Scholar and NCAA Elite 90 awards. She was also recently named an NFHCA Division II Scholar of Distinction and a member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Gatehouse is the second student-athlete from Kutztown to receive the National Scholar-Athlete award. Leigh Roselli received the award in 2021.
