Kennedy, Mitchell named Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Jonna Kennedy, junior goalkeeper from Boston College, and Meghan Mitchell, freshman forward from Villanova University, have been named this week’s Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Jonna Kennedy, Boston College, Jr., Goalkeeper (Watertown, Massachusetts)

Kennedy registered 10 saves while recording two shutout wins for Boston College last week. She collected five saves in a 2-0 win over the University of New Hampshire and five more in a 3-0 win over the University of Vermont. She currently leads the ACC with an average 7.43 saves per game, nearly three more per game than the next-closest goalkeeper.

Kennedy was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Meghan Mitchell, Villanova University, Fr., Forward (Villanova, Pennsylvania)

Mitchell had a nine-point weekend for Villanova University. In the first game of a two-contest slate against Quinnipiac University, Mitchell notched the first goal in an eventual 3-2 Wildcat win. Then in Sunday’s contest, she netted her first-career hat trick and her first-career game-winning goal as well as an assist in the 5-0 win. Mitchell leads Villanova with five goals and 11 points on the season.

Mitchell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
