Henriksen, Pastor named Play Safe/NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Taylor Henriksen, goalkeeper from the University of Virginia, and Mercedes Pastor, midfielder from the University of Louisville, have been named this week’s Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Taylor Henriksen, University of Virginia, So., Goalkeeper (Falls Church, Virginia)

In UVA’s season-opening weekend against Atlantic Coast Conference opponent, Wake Forest University, Henriksen tallied 12 saves. The split contests were just her third and fourth appearances in the cage for the Cavaliers. In the first game of the weekend, a 2-1 non-conference loss for UVA, Henriksen registered a career-high nine saves. Then, on Sunday’s 1-0 conference victory, she registered three saves and her first career shutout.

Henriksen was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Mercedes Pastor, University of Louisville, Sr., Midfielder/Forward (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

Last weekend was a strong start for the Cardinals and Pastor — the University of Louisville registered two wins in their season-opening weekend against Duke University while Pastor contributed with five points. In Saturday’s 3-0 conference contest with the Blue Devils, Pastor scored twice to help Louisville to the win. Then, on Sunday, in a 3-1 non-conference victory over Duke, Pastor assisted in the Cardinal’s first goal.

Pastor was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
