Dr. Andrea Wieland joins list of speakers for VCC 2021

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Dr. Andrea Wieland, associate athletic director and director of sports performance for University of Pennsylvania Athletics, will join the exciting slate of speakers who will present at the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s 2021 Virtual Coaches’ Caucus.

Andrea will present “Courage to Lead,” a session which will cover mindfulness, vulnerability, and demonstrative care practices that coaches can implement with their teams during these uncertain times.

Dr. Andrea Wieland is the associate athletic director and director of sports performance for University of Pennsylvania Athletics and has over two decades of experience consulting and coaching in the high-performance space.

Leveraging a team-around-the-team holistic methodology, Dr. Wieland currently oversees athletic medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, mental health and performance, and the relationship with Penn Medicine for almost 1,000 student-athletes and 33 sports teams at Penn Athletics.

In her work, Dr. Wieland specializes in developing leaders, teams, and performers through an integrated 360-degree approach to assessment, education, intervention, and evaluation.

As the former head of mental conditioning at the world-renowned IMG Academy, she worked with Special Operations Forces, elite and professional athletes, NFL Combine athletes, as well as CEO’s and their senior leadership teams.

Andrea is a licensed psychologist, a 1996 Olympian with the United States Women’s National Field Hockey Team, and a former Division I assistant field hockey coach — where she was a part of a NCAA National Championship with the University of Maryland and a Big Ten Championship with the University of Iowa.

2021 Virtual Coaches’ Caucus

The Virtual Coaches’ Caucus (VCC) is slated to be a dynamic, online gathering of NFHCA members and field hockey coaches. The VCC will incorporate NFHCA business meetings, educational sessions, a variety of speakers, awards ceremonies, and opportunities for attendees to connect with their field hockey colleagues.

The VCC will take place between January 5 — 10, 2021, with professional development components mainly taking place on January 9 and 10. Registration will open in September.
