van Aalsum, Uges NFHCA DI Field Hockey Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO  — Dionne van Aalsum, a senior forward from the University of Iowa, and Flore Uges, a first-year defender from the University of California, Berkeley, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Sofia Marciano, a junior midfielder from Old Dominion University, and Juliana Boon, a junior goalkeeper from Northwestern University, also received honorable mention nods for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week

Dionne van Aalsum, University of Iowa, Senior, Forward (Castricum, Netherlands)

• Scored three goals as Iowa earned wins over then-No. 16 Miami and then-No. 14 Louisville.
• Netted the game-winning goal in both ranked wins, including a fourth-quarter winner in the 2-1 comeback against Miami.
• Recorded two goals in Iowa’s 4-2 win over Louisville.
• Earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.

NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week

Flore Uges, University of California, Berkeley, First-Year, Defender (Den Haag, Netherlands)

• Anchored California’s defense during road wins over then-No. 8 Michigan and Michigan State.
• Scored the game-winning goal in the Golden Bears’ 1-0 shutout at Michigan.
• Limited Michigan to one penalty corner and helped preserve the lead after the Wolverines added an extra attacker in the final minutes of regulation.
• Earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

NFHCA Division I Honorable Mention

Offensive: Sofia Marciano, Old Dominion University, Junior, Midfielder (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

• Tallied back-to-back second-half goals in Old Dominion’s 5-4 overtime road win over then-No. 5 North Carolina.
• Earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Defensive: Juliana Boon, Northwestern University, Junior, Goalkeeper (Houston, TX)

• Made seven saves in each of Northwestern’s wins over then-No. 14 Louisville and then-No. 16 Miami, posting a .933 save percentage and 0.50 goals-against average.
• Earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.
