Hampsch, Matson named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week
GENEVA, N.Y. — Junior goalkeeper from No. 18 Duke University, Piper Hampsch, and senior forward from No. 2 University of North Carolina, Erin Matson, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week sponsored by ScoreBreak, respectively.
NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week
Piper Hampsch, No. 18 Duke University, Jr., Goalkeeper (Hopedale, Massachusetts)
- Made a combined 11 saves in the No. 18 Blue Devil’s shootout win over No. 8 Rutgers and a 1-0 double-overtime win over No. 16 Saint Joe’s
- Finished the weekend with a 0.38 goals against average and a .917 save percentage
- Made three saves during the shootout vs No. 8 Rutgers and pushed her career total saves to 172 to rank 11th in Duke history
NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Matson, No. 2 University of North Carolina, Sr., Forward (Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania)
- Scored her first goal of the season in the No. 2 Tar Heel’s 5-1 win over No. 3 Michigan on Friday
- Buried the game-winning goal to lift the Tar Heels to a 3-2 overtime comeback win vs No. 5 Iowa on Sunday
- Matson’s game-winning goal brought her career tally to 25 and all-time ACC-leading total in career goals scored to 111
