BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Zella Bailey, a 2022 midfielder/forward from Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, scored four goals — including an overtime championship-winning stroke — to earn the distinction of April’s Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Scholastic Player of the Month.

Bailey amassed 15 points on four goals and seven assists over six games in the month of April. In Cox’s postseason run, Bailey’s scoring came in clutch for the Falcons. She scored the equalizer in the regional title game against Gloucester High School in which Cox came from behind to win, 2-1. Then, in the state championship game against Stafford High School, Bailey scored on a stroke in overtime to secure Cox’s third-straight and 22nd-overall Virginia Class A State Field Hockey title.
