Sessa, van Herwijnen named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week

MANAHAWKIN, NJ  — Ashley Sessa, a sophomore forward from No. 2 Northwestern University, and Myrte van Herwijnen, a junior goalkeeper from No. 15 University of Massachusetts Amherst, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Isabella Ospitale, a junior goalkeeper from No. 20 Temple University, also received an honorable mention nod for Defensive Player of the Week.

NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week

 

Myrte van Herwijnen, No. 15 University of Massachusetts Amherst, Jr., Goalkeeper (Huizen, The Netherlands)

  • Named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Recorded 13 total saves across two victories, including the Minutewomen’s 1-0 shutout win over then-No. 11 Boston College.
  • Made 10 saves in the ranked win to cement her fourth shutout of the season.

NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week

 

Ashley Sessa, No. 2 Northwestern University, So., Forward (Schwenksville, Pennsylvania)

  • Named B1G Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Tallied 11 total points across two conference victories.
  • Netted a hat trick against Rutgers and recorded two goals and two assists against then-No. 17 Penn State University.

NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention

 

Isabella Ospitale, No. 20 Temple University, Jr., Goalkeeper (South Setauket, New York)

  • Big East Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Made a career-high eight saves against then-No. 18 Liberty University in a 5-1 win for Temple – the Owls’ first over the Flames since 2011.
