Lechner, Thompson named Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II National Players of the Week

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Junior goalkeeper, Avian Thompson, and sophomore midfielder, Gabe Lechner, both from Queens University of Charlotte, have been named this week’s Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Avian Thompson, Queens University of Charlotte, Jr., Goalkeeper (Hummelstown, Pennsylvania)

Thompson totaled eight saves this past week to help the Royals collect two wins and secure the No. 2 seed heading into South Atlantic Conference tournament play. Thompson recorded a shutout win over the University of Mount Olive before recording six saves in Queens’ home win over Newberry College.

Thompson was named South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. This is Thompson’s second Division II Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.

Gabe Lechner, Queens University of Charlotte, So., Midfielder (Chesapeake, Virginia)

Lechner helped the Royals close the regular season with two wins to secure the No. 2 seed heading into conference-tournament action. Lechner scored two goals in Queens’ shutout win over the University of Mount Olive. Then, later in the week, she scored the game-winner in the 50th minute of play against Newberry College. Last week, she posted three goals for six total points.

Lechner was named South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
