Leading by Example: Carolyn King-Robitaille’s Exemplary Record of Volunteerism

Manahawkin, NJ - In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s (NFHCA) ongoing month-long series highlighting service during National Volunteer Month, we shine the final spotlight on Carolyn King-Robitaille, head coach at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire and current president of the NFHCA.
In the dynamic world of collegiate field hockey, individuals like King-Robitaille stand out not only for their dedication to the sport but also for their commitment to fostering positive change within its community. As the association’s president and a collegiate head coach, she exemplifies the spirit of service and collaboration that lies at the heart of the sport.
Over the years, King-Robitaille has lent her expertise to a multitude of NFHCA committees, including the Hall of Fame Committee, the Senior Team Committee, and serving as the Division II Board Representative. Currently, she occupies pivotal roles within committees such as the DEI Committee, Field Hockey Forward DII Advisory Committee, Bylaws Committee and more. Her dedication to these roles underscores her belief in the importance of collaboration and collective effort in driving meaningful change.
We recently caught up with King-Robitaille and asked her to reflect on her time as an NFHCA volunteer.
“In my early days of volunteering with the NFHCA, my motivation was rooted in a desire for understanding,” King-Robitaille shares. “I wanted to delve deeper into the selection and voting processes for our awards,” she shared.
Through her multifaceted roles within the NFHCA, King-Robitaille has become a linchpin for collaborative efforts aimed at driving meaningful change. “I firmly believe in the power of collective action,” she asserted. “My involvement in committees like the DEI Committee and Field Hockey Forward DII Advisory Committee underscores the importance of collaboration in shaping the future of our sport.”
Reflecting on her experiences, King-Robitaille underscores the invaluable lessons she has gleaned about herself and the significance of mentorship. “My journey with the NFHCA has taught me the profound impact of collaboration,” she said. “Moreover, I am deeply grateful for the guidance and inspiration I’ve received from mentors, both within the NFHCA board and from my high school field hockey coach.”
As both a collegiate head coach and NFHCA President, King-Robitaille possesses a unique vantage point to recognize the pivotal role the organization plays within the field hockey community. “The NFHCA serves as a vital nexus for community, mentorship, and legislative input,” she explains. “It is instrumental in safeguarding and fostering the growth and sustainability of our sport.”
