Harris, Martin named NFHCA Division III National Players of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y. — First-year goalkeeper from Castleton University, Zoe Martin, and junior forward from Castleton University, Emily Harris, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division III Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week sponsored by ScoreBreak, respectively. The performance of No. 3 Rowan University, Vanessa DiDonato, merited an honorable mention.

NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week

 

Zoe Martin, Castleton University, Fr., Goalkeeper (Haverhill, Massachusetts)

  • Made 28 saves as third-seeded Castleton University defeated three Little East Conference teams on the way to claiming the Little East Conference championship title
  • Made six saves in the 5-1 quarterfinal win over sixth-seeded Fitchburg State University
  • Turned away 11 shots in the shutout victory at second-seeded Worcester State University in the semifinals
  • Stopped 11 shots in the 2-1 championship victory vs top-seeded University of Southern Maine
  • Named LEC Goalkeeper of the Week

NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week

 

Emily Harris, Castleton University, Jr., Forward (Crondall, England)

  • Totaled four goals and three assists for 11 points as third-seeded Castleton claimed their first conference title in any sport since joining the Little East Conference in 2018
  • Scored two goals and set up two others in the quarterfinal win over sixth-seeded Fitchburg State University
  • Scored one goal and one assist in the 3-0 semifinal win over second-seeded Worcester State University
  • Scored her 34th goal of the season in the title game against top-seeded University of Southern Maine
  • Ranks first in the nation for goals (34) and points (85)
  • Ranks third in the nation for assists (17)
  • Named LEC Offensive Player of the Week

Honorable Mention

Vanessa DiDonato, No. 3 Rowan University, So., Forward (Burlington Township, New Jersey)

  • Scored four goals in the 6-1 NJAC semifinal vs Montclair State University
  • This marks the most goals in a single game by any Rowan field hockey player this season
  • Set up the game winning goal by earning a stroke in the championship game vs The College of New Jersey
  • Helped Rowan win their second consecutive NJAC championship
  • Named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
