Bruder, McKenna named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Charly Bruder, a sophomore forward from No. 1 University of North Carolina, and Natalie McKenna, a sophomore goalkeeper from No. 4 University of Connecticut, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Valentina Martorell, a senior defender from University of Delaware, also received an honorable mention nod for Defensive Player of the Week.

NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week
Natalie McKenna, No. 4 University of Connecticut, So., Goalkeeper (Northport, New York)
- Named Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
- Recorded six saves to help guide Connecticut to the Big East Tournament Championship.
- Allowed only one goal against then-No. 18 Liberty, before posting a shutout in a a 1-0 victory over Temple in the title game.
NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week
Charly Bruder, No. 1 University of North Carolina, So., Forward (Malvern, Pennsylvania)
- Named ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
- Tallied 10 points to lead the Tar Heels to their 27th conference Championship.
- Netted a pair of goals each in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds before adding another score in the title game win over then-No. 8 Boston College.
NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention
Valentina Martorell, University of Delaware, Sr., Defender (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
- Named CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
- Netted two goals to lead Delaware to a 4-3 victory in the title game and the Blue Hens’ 10th CAA Championship.
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game.
