NFHCA names Duke University’s McVeigh 2023 Division I National Scholar-Athlete

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Alaina McVeigh, a sophomore midfielder/forward from Duke University, has been named this year’s NFHCA Division I National Scholar-Athlete.

The NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete honor is presented annually to the Division I All-American who earns the highest cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the current academic year.

McVeigh maintained an exceptional 3.95 grade point average while excelling on the pitch for the 18-5 Blue Devils, helping to lead Duke to the NCAA Division I Final Four. Starting all 23 games, she netted 17 goals to go along with three assists this past season.

In addition to being named an NFHCA Division I All-American, McVeigh also earned honors as ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team, and NFHCA All-South Region First Team. She was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team, an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, and a member of the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.

McVeigh is the second Duke University student-athlete to receive the Scholar-Athlete award.  Lauren Blazing from Duke was honored in 2015.
