Pace, Vincent named NFHCA Division III National Players of the Week
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Sophomore goalkeeper from No. 16 Wesleyan University, Audrey Pace, and graduate student midfielder from New England College, Mikayla Vincent, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division III Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Senior defender from Denison University, Cary Mauck, first-year midfielder from Framingham State University, Ashley Malmquist, sophomore forward from University of Rochester, Maeve Fogarty, and junior forward from Keene State College, Irini Stefanakos, also received honorable mention nods for Division III Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, as well.
NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week
Audrey Pace, No. 16 Wesleyan University, So., Goalkeeper (Los Gatos, California)
- Played a crucial role in Wesleyan’s shootout win over Bowdoin on Saturday that clinched the Cardinals’ first NESCAC Tournament berth since 2013 and the first win over the Polar Bears since 2009.
- Matched her career-high with 14 saves, including nine stops in the fourth quarter alone.
- Denied Bowdoin in five-of-six penalty-shootout rounds.
NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week
Mikayla Vincent, New England College, Gr., Midfielder (Newburyport, Massachusetts)
- Named GNAC Player of the Week, the first in school history.
- Netted six goals and four assists in a 3-0 week for New England College.
- Scored four goals and added two assists over conference rival Elms, helping her to eclipse the 100-point career mark.
NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention
Cary Mauck, Denison University, Sr., Defender (Richmond, Virginia)
- Led the Big Red defense to two shutouts this past week against the University of Mary Washington (2-0) and NCAC opponent Earlham (7-0).
- Tallied an assist against Earlham.
- Helped Denison record its eighth shutout in eight conference games this season.
NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention
Maeve Fogarty, University of Rochester, So., Forward (St. Louis, Missouri)
- Recorded 10 total points (4 goals, 2 assists), in a 3-0 week for the Yellowjackets.
- Assisted on the game-winning goal while leading Rochester with nine total shots (5 shots on goal) against SUNY Brockport.
- Tallied two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist against St. Lawrence.
- Netted two goals in a victory over Skidmore.
NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention
Ashley Malmquist, Framingham State University, FY., Forward (Medfield, Massachusetts)
- Netted four goals and two assists for 10 points in a 2-1 week for the Rams.
- Recorded two goals and an assist in the 5-0 win over Bridgewater State.
- Tallied a goal and assist in the 2-1 overtime win over Western Connecticut and added another score in the 4-3 overtime setback to Plymouth State.
NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention
Irini Stefanakos, Keene State College, Jr., Forward (Fitchburg, Massachusetts)
- Named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week.
- Totaled three goals and four assists for 10 points in a 2-0 week for the Owls.
- Scored one goal and set up three others, including the game-winner, in a 5-3 win over defending LEC tournament champion Vermont State Castleton.
- Added two goals twice and added an assist in a 6-3 win over Eastern Connecticut.
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game.
