Smith, Kerr NFHCA DIII Field Hockey Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Emily Smith, a first year midfielder from Wesleyan University, and Lily Kerr, a senior goalkeeper from Christopher Newport University, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division III Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Aubree Wenner, a sophomore forward from SUNY Geneseo, and Steph Ionescu, a sophomore goalkeeper from Haverford College, also received honorable mention nods for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week
Emily Smith, Wesleyan University, First Year, Midfielder (Boston, MA)
- Led Wesleyan to a 3-0 week highlighted by a 2–1 double-overtime win at then-No. 4 Middlebury, scoring both goals for the Cardinals.
- Added an assist in the 1–0 victory at No. 11 Williams, helping Wesleyan clinch the Little Three Championship for the first time since 2003.
- Honored as the NESCAC Player of the Week for her clutch performances.
NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week
Lily Kerr, Christopher Newport University, Senior, Goalkeeper (Edgewater, MD)
- Led top-ranked Christopher Newport to a perfect 2–0 week with two ranked wins over Salisbury and Williams.
- Posted a .900 save percentage, 0.43 goals-against average, and one shutout across 140 minutes of play.
- Made four clutch fourth-quarter saves and two overtime stops in the win over Salisbury before securing her 23rd career shutout against Williams.
NFHCA Division III Honorable Mention
Offensive: Aubree Wenner, SUNY Geneseo, Sophomore, Forward (Vestal, NY)
- Recorded three goals and two assists on the week, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in a double overtime win over Susquehanna.
- Recognized as the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week after delivering decisive goals in all three Knights victories.
Defensive: Steph Ionescu, Haverford College, Sophomore, Goalkeeper (Wilton, CT)
- Recorded a .889 save percentage in a 2-0 week for the Fords, including the program’s first-ever victory over Ursinus and a shootout win over Gettysburg.
- Also recognized as the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
