Slomba, Socker named Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division III National Players of the Week

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Senior defender, Katelyn Slomba, and senior forward, Bre Socker, both from St. John Fisher College, have been named this week’s Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division III Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Katelyn Slomba, St. John Fisher College, Sr., Defender (Chaffee, New York)

Slomba played a key role in St. John Fisher College’s championship-winning weekend. She led a defensive unit that posted back-to-back shutouts over the weekend in wins over Nazareth College and Hartwick College.

Slomba was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the All-Empire 8 Second Team on Monday. This is Socker’s second Division III Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.

Bre Socker, St. John Fisher College, Sr., Forward (Liverpool, New York)

Socker scored six of St. John Fisher College’s seven goals last week to earn 2021 Empire 8 Spring Field Hockey Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player honors, as the Cardinals won their second league title in program history. On Friday, Socker tied an Empire 8 single-game record and set St. John Fisher’s mark with a five-goal outburst in the E8 semifinals versus Nazareth College. Socker scored the lone goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Hartwick College in the league championship. Socker finished the year with 16 goals and 36 points in just six games played.

Socker was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week, Player of the Year, and selected to the All-Empire 8 First Team on Monday.
