Sessa, Johnson NFHCA DI Field Hockey Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Ashley Sessa, a junior forward from Northwestern University, and Abby Johnson, a sophomore goalkeeper from the University of New Hampshire, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Mia Schoenbeck, a junior midfielder from Wake Forest University, and Diane Saint Martin, a first year goalkeeper from Liberty University, also received honorable mention nods for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week
Ashley Sessa, Northwestern, Junior, Forward (Schwenksville, PA)
- Posted eight points to lead Northwestern to wins over then-No. 13 Michigan and then-No. 18 Ohio State.
- Scored the game-winning goal in the 3-1 victory over Michigan as the Wildcats clinched the Big Ten regular-season title.
- Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week
Abby Johnson, New Hampshire, Sophomore, Goalkeeper (Walpole, MA)
- Posted 17 saves, a .944 save percentage, and a 0.50 goals-against-average in wins over Albany and Lafayette.
- Anchored the Wildcats to a perfect week, facing 18 shots and allowing just one goal in 120 minutes of play.
- Named America East Defensive Player of the Week.
NFHCA Division I Honorable Mention
Offensive: Mia Schoenbeck, Wake Forest, Junior, Midfielder (LaGrange, KY)
- Registered a hat trick on the road at then-No. 8 Duke and added an assist vs. App State, totaling seven points in two wins for the Demon Deacons.
- Named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.
Defensive: Diane Saint Martin, Liberty, First Year, Goalkeeper (Paris, France)
- Made a career-high 12 saves and three overtime shootout stops in a 3-2 (SO) win at Temple before adding four saves in a 7–1 win over Longwood.
- Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
The NFHCA National Player of the Week program honors an offensive and defensive player of the week, in each division, throughout the season.
