North Carolina, East Stroudsburg, Middlebury take home National Coaching Staff of the Year honors

LAKE MARY, Fla. — NCAA National Champions University of North Carolina, East Stroudsburg University, and Middlebury College, have been named their respective division’s National Coaching Staff of the Year for their performances in the 2022 season.

The NFHCA National Coaching Staff of the Year awards were announced on Thursday afternoon at the Coach Appreciation & Awards Luncheon sponsored by FieldTurf at the NFHCA Annual Convention. Honorees were selected by a majority vote by their peers from the Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year.

2021 National Coaching Staff of the Year, Northwestern University

Karen Shelton, Grant Fulton, Caitlin Van Sickle

 

  • Finished the season 21-0, claiming the program’s 10th NCAA Division I Championship
  • Shelton named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Co-Coach of the Year
  • Claimed their 25th ACC Championship
  • Secured their 11th Regional Coaching Staff of the Year award
  • This is North Carolina’s sixth National Coaching honor
2021 NFHCA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year, Shippensburg University

Sandy Miller, Katie Ord, Elena Andreyev
  • NCAA Division II National Champions, second title in program history
  • PSAC tournament champions for the first time since 2019
  • Finished the season 20-2 to set a school record for wins
  • Secured East Stroudsburg’s third Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year award
  • This is East Stroudsburg’s second National Coaching honor

  • New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) regular-season and tournament champions
  • First team across any division to win five-straight NCAA Championships
  • DeLorenzo became the first NESCAC field hockey coach to earn NESCAC Coach of the Year five-straight times to bring her total to six
  • Secured Middlebury’s fifth-straight Regional Coaching Staff of the year award
  • This is Middlebury’s sixth National Coaching honor

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
