GILBERT, Ariz. — Arielle Johnston, a senior midfielder from Salisbury University, has been named this year’s Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Scholar-Athlete.

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete award is presented to the 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-American honoree who earns the highest cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

Johnston, a 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III First-Team All-American and Longstreth/NFHCA Division III First-Team All-Region, posted 12 goals and 10 assists last season for the Sea Gulls. She played an integral role for Salisbury’s 2019 campaign which featured their 22nd Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament semifinals.

The National Scholar-Athlete award is the latest in a long list of accolades for Johnston who was also named the NCAA Elite 90 award winner for field hockey, a Division III Honda Athlete of the Year finalist, and the CAC Player of the Year. Recently, she was also awarded a postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA.

As a community health major with a minor in psychology and Spanish, Johnston’s academic aptitude has also earned her a spot on the Zag Sports/NFHCA National Academic Squad and Scholars of Distinction list.

The National Scholar-Athlete award is the final award in a series of academic awards announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
