Murphy, O’Neill named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week
BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Fifth-year forward from No. 3 University of Iowa, Maddy Murphy, and redshirt-senior defender from No. 2 University of Michigan, Halle O’Neill, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.
NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week
Halle O’Neill, University of Michigan, RSr., Defender (Hummelstown, Pennsylvania)
- O’Neill led the University of Michigan to a 2-0 record in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge last weekend with wins over No. 1 University of North Carolina and No. 11 Wake Forest University
- O’Neill and the Wolverine defense held their ACC opposition to two goals, 18 total shots, and five penalty corners
- Helped secure a 2-0 shutout against the Demon Deacons
- Contributed a goal in the third quarter against Wake Forest
- This is O’Neill’s second NFHCA Player of the Week honor and her first this season
NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week
Maddy Murphy, University of Iowa, Fif., Forward (Riana, Tasmania)
- Murphy scored two goals and had two assists for six points this past weekend
- She helped lead No. 3 University of Iowa to a 2-0 record at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge
- In the 5-3 win over No. 11 Wake Forest University on Friday, Murphy registered the first goal of the game and had two assists
- In Sunday’s 3-1 win over No. 1 UNC, Murphy opened the scoring, netting a goal just 30 seconds into the second quarter
- This is Murphy’s first NFHCA Player of the Week honor
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
