GENEVA, N.Y. — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is proud to announce that Able Athletics Field Hockey has been selected as the second-ever recipient of the NFHCA DEI Spotlight recognition award. This prestigious accolade, established by the NFHCA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, aims to honor a remarkable individual, group, or organization within the USA field hockey community that has made significant contributions to the DEI space through education, advocacy, and allyship.
“Through Able Athletics Field Hockey, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive and empowering space where athletes of diverse abilities can come together to discover the joy of field hockey and unlock their full potential,” remarked Melissa Ponzio, Director of Able Athletics Field Hockey. “Our program celebrates unity, education, and the belief that every individual, regardless of ability, deserves the chance to thrive on and off the field. We achieve this through collaborative efforts, working closely with therapists, coaches, and educators to ensure a comprehensive and supportive environment for all participants.”

“Finding Able Athletics Field Hockey clinic has been more than a gift for our ten-year-old and our family—it’s a celebration of ability, movement and inclusion,” remarked a mom of an Able Athletics Field Hockey Athlete. “The level of support, encouragement, and engagement from qualified volunteers is unmatched, having kept our daughter’s focus for the entire length of each clinic, all while providing the safest environment and seamless administration. Despite a 90-minute drive one way to participate, Addie’s excitement in anticipation is palpable, and her confidence shines both after clinic and when she recalls her time with Able Athletics Field Hockey. We’re eager for the opportunity to bring the organization’s efforts more locally!”
