GILBERT, Ariz. — Laura van der Doorn, a forward from Southern New Hampshire University, has been named this year’s Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II National Scholar-Athlete.

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete award is presented to the 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division II All-American honoree who earns the highest cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

Van der Doorn, a 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division II First-Team All-American and the First Point USA/NFHCA Division II East Region Player of the Year, posted 15 goals and 5 assists last season for the Penmen. She was an important piece of the puzzle for SNHU’s record-breaking season which was highlighted by a program record for wins (17), an appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference championship game, and their first-ever selection to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

In addition to her All-American status, Van der Doorn was also recognized as the NE10 Player of the Year and named to the NE10 All-Conference First Team.

The sociology major was also honored with the 2019 NE10 Sport Excellence Award. Her name also appeared on the Zag Sports/NFHCA National Academic Squad and Scholars of Distinction list.

She finishes her SNHU career with program records in points (89), goals (35), assists (17), and game-winning goals (9).

The National Scholar-Athlete award is the final award in a series of academic awards announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
