Honolulu Field Hockey Club Honored with NFHCA DEI Spotlight Award
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is excited to honor the Honolulu Field Hockey Club as the newest recipient of the NFHCA DEI Spotlight recognition award. Established by the NFHCA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, this accolade aims to honor outstanding individuals, groups, or organizations within the USA field hockey community who have demonstrated remarkable contributions to DEI efforts through education, advocacy, and allyship.
The Honolulu Field Hockey Club is a non-profit amateur sports team in Honolulu, Hawaii, that is certified and endorsed by the United States Field Hockey League (USFHL). The club’s goal is to grow the game of field hockey in Hawaii. As the only club in Hawaii, the organization provides playing opportunities for anyone who wishes to keep a stick in their hands.
“We are really honored to have received this and appreciate your willingness to grow the sport. It’s been quite a journey and process for us to keep this field hockey club alive in Hawaii but we love this and we are so passionate about it that we won’t give up. Things like this recognition makes us confirm we are doing a good job and motivate us to keep working hard,” said Melissa Lin, Director of Honolulu Field Hockey Club.
According to Dani Castro, Co-Chairperson of the DEI Committee, Honolulu FHC was selected because of the club’s commitment to providing access to field hockey in an underserved region that exemplifies the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment that the DEI Spotlight aims to celebrate.
“Honolulu Field Hockey Club is a non-profit organization looking to grow the game in Hawaii, a location where field hockey has a tiny footprint. There are less than 1% of Pacific Islanders playing field hockey and this group provides a home to that community,” added Castro.
