BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Bryn Boylan and Meredith Sholder, both from the University of North Carolina, have been named this week’s Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week

Bryn Boylan, University of North Carolina, Sr., Forward/Midfielder (Doylestown, Pennsylvania)

Boylan came off the bench to provide a defensive spark in UNC’s 3-1 season-opening win over Wake Forest University. UNC allowed just one corner and limited the Demon Deacons to seven shots. Throughout the match, Boylan read the game well and came up with key tackles at important moments to lead the Tar Heels defense.

Boylan was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week

Meredith Sholder, University of North Carolina, RJr., Forward (Alburtis, Pennsylvania)

Sholder started on the front line and scored UNC’s only field goal in their 3-1 season-opening victory at Wake Forest University on Sunday. With the score standing at 2-1, Sholder received a pass in the middle of the circle, deftly alluded two defenders before scoring to give the Tar Heels the two-point lead that they would carry through the conclusion of the game.

Sholder was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
