Bitting, Pastor named Play Safe/NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Alli Bitting and Mercedes Pastor, both from the University of Louisville, have been named this week’s Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively. The co-captains’ performances last week helped the Cardinals improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play, securing at least a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s regular-season title.

Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week

 

Alli Bitting, University of Louisville, Sr., Defender (Hummelstown, Pennsylvania)

Co-captain, Alli Bitting, led a Cardinal defensive unit that was integral in the 2-0 weekend against the University of Virginia. The two wins helped the University of Louisville improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Bitting contributed an assist on the first goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Cavaliers.

Bitting and the Louisville defense limited UVA to three goals in a fast-paced and competitive two-game weekend.

Bitting was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Play Safe/NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week

 

Mercedes Pastor, University of Louisville, Sr., Midfielder/Forward (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

In the two-game weekend against the Cavaliers, Mercedes Pastor tallied seven points on three goals and an assist.

In Friday’s 5-2 conference win over UVA, Pastor recorded two goals, including the game winner, and an assist on the second goal of the game. On Saturday, she opened the scoring off of a penalty corner in the third quarter, then helped to set up the game winner with a pass to teammate Madison Walsh who put the Cardinals up, 2-1.

Pastor reached a season-high seven shots on goal in Friday’s game and currently leads the team in goals, assists, and points.

Pastor was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
