Matson, Park named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y. — Senior goalkeeper from No. 24 Cornell University, Aerin Park, and senior forward from No. 1 University of North Carolina, Erin Matson, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week sponsored by ScoreBreak, respectively. The performance of Boston University’s sophomore forward, Payton Anderson, merited an honorable mention.
NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week
Aerin Park, No. 24 Cornell University, Sr., Goalkeeper (Surrey, British Columbia)
- Earned a pair of shutouts vs Brown University and then-No. 4 University of Louisville
- Made eight total saves on the week
- Stopped seven total saves for the 2-0 shutout against Louisville
- Ranks second in the Ivy League for goals against average and first for save percentage
- The win over Louisville marked Cornell’s highest ranked opponent that Cornell has beaten in its 50-year program history
- Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week
NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Matson, No. 1 University of North Carolina, Sr., Forward (Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania)
- Totaled three goals and three assists for a total of nine points in the 2-0 weekend for North Carolina
- Scored twice in the 3-1 ACC win vs then-No. 7 University of Virginia
- Scored the second goal and handed out three assists in the 6-0 victory vs then-No. 9 Saint Joseph’s University
- These three assists moved Matson into second place for all-time assists at North Carolina and is just three away from tying the UNC career record
- Named ACC Offensive Player of the Week
- This is Matson’s third NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week honor this season
Honorable Mention
Payton Anderson, Boston University, So., Forward (Christchurch, New Zealand)
- Scored four goals last week including her first collegiate hat trick in a win over then-No. 23 University of Maine
- Scored three corner goals off four shots in the 5-2 victory vs Maine
- Scored one goal against then-No. 21 Boston College
- Named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game.
