Betsy Butterick, “The Coaches’ Coach” and communication specialist, will join the exciting slate of leaders who will present at the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s (NFHCA) 2021 Virtual Coaches’ Caucus.
Betsy will lead “Relating to Today’s Student-Athlete: Effectively Coaching Gen Z.”
Born during or after 1996, the young people we are coaching have never known life without the internet. This “iGen” has been dubbed the first, true-digital natives, and most learned to operate some form of technology before they could form complete sentences. Today’s coaches cite challenges with their student-athlete’s short-attention spans, inability to accept criticism (even if it’s constructive), and an almost constant need for reassurance and validation.
Betsy’s session is designed to be a toolkit for coaches to better understand Generation Z and allow them to coach more effectively. Participants will learn facts about our nation’s youngest generation and leave with options to better communicate and connect with Gen Z.
