Roncoroni, Velez named Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Weekly Award winners

GILBERT, Ariz. — A pair of West Chester University student-athletes, junior midfielder, Emma Velez, and senior forward, Kat Roncoroni, have been named this week's Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Emma Velez, West Chester University, Jr., Midfielder (Coatesville, Pennsylvania)

Velez recorded five points and two defensive saves in No. 1 West Chester University's 2-0 weekend. In the Golden Rams' 3-2 win over No. 5 Kutztown University, Velez assisted on a goal and made a defensive save. Later in the week, against No. 10 Mansfield University, she tallied two goals and another defensive save. Velez's performance on both sides of the ball last week help propel WCU to a 18-0 record and first seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Championship.

Velez was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Offensive Player of the Week

Kat Roncoroni, West Chester University, Sr., Forward (Lebanon Township, New Jersey)

Roncoroni totaled 11 points on five goals and one assist last week for No. 1 West Chester University. In Wednesday's win over No. 3 Kutztown, Roncoroni scored the first goal of the game to help the Golden Rams win 3-2. During Saturday's matchup versus No. 10 Mansfield, Roncoroni scored four goals and had one assist in the team's 7-2 win, marking her third multi-goal game this season.

Roncoroni was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week.

Honorable Mention

Brady Keeler, Newberry College, Sr., Forward (Bridgeville, Delaware)

Keeler's record-breaking offensive performance led Newberry College to a 2-0 record last week against conference opponents Queens University of Charlotte and Belmont Abbey College. In the Wolves' 3-2 win over Queens, Keeler scored two goals and recorded an assist. She broke Newberry's program record for individual career goals with her second goal of the game. Then on Saturday, she scored again in Newberry's 2-0 win over Belmont Abbey.

Keeler was named AstroTurf Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas.
