GILBERT, Ariz. — After successfully defending their unbeaten record last weekend, The College of New Jersey moved into first place on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. The Pride was tested by No. 10 Rowan University and No. 9 Kean University — two formidable conference opponents — but came out one goal ahead in both contests. TCNJ now sits atop both the National Coaches Poll and the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings with one week left to go in the regular season.
The Top Five
Three of the top-five teams are tied for first in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) standings — No. 2 Middlebury College, No. 4 Bowdoin College, and No. 5 Tufts University all tout an 8-1 conference record. This week's final regular season contests will determine which team will take the top seed in the NESCAC Field Hockey Championship.
In Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action, No. 3 Salisbury College scored an impressive 12 goals last week against CAC opponents to move to 4-0 and first place in their conference. In order to clench the CAC regular-season title, the Sea Gulls will have to beat York College tomorrow evening in their final regular season contest of the year (watch on the Sea Gull Sports Network).
Games to Watch
The results of tonight's 6:30 p.m. game between No. 2 Middlebury and No. 7 Williams College (on Northeast Sports Network) and Wednesday's 7:00 p.m. contest between No. 4 Bowdoin and No. 5 Tufts (online, here) will determine the final seeding for the NESCAC Field Hockey Tournament.
Field hockey fans will not want to miss Saturday's noon game between No. 6 Franklin & Marshall College and No. 8 Johns Hopkins University (online, here). Both teams are currently undefeated in the Centennial Conference and the game result will be an important factor in naming the Centennial regular-season champion (Hopkins' Wednesday game against Gettysburg College will also play a role in conference standings).
