Baekers, Kennedy named Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division I Weekly Award winners

GILBERT, Ariz. — Jonna Kennedy, sophomore goalkeeper from No. 17 Boston College, and Bente Baekers, freshman forward from No. 7 Northwestern University, have been named this week's Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Jonna Kennedy, Boston College, So., Goalkeeper (Watertown, Massachusetts)

Kennedy recorded a 2-0 shutout against ACC-foe, No. 21 Wake Forest University on Friday. She led the defensive effort that made the difference for the No. 17 Eagles — Kennedy made six saves and allowed no goals on a day the Demon Deacons outshot the Eagles 11-10, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal and 8-4 lead in penalty corners.

Kennedy was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week

Bente Baekers, Northwestern University, RFr., Forward (Rijswijk, The Netherlands)

Baekers' 12-point weekend helped No. 7 Northwestern University continue its six-game winning streak with victories over No. 14 Ohio State University and Miami University. Baekers scored a hat trick in each of the Wildcats' contests — she added three goals in the 4-1 conference win over the Buckeyes and three more in the 5-2 win over the Red Hawks.

Baekers was named Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week.
