Hand, Veenstra named NFHCA Division II Weekly Award winners

GILBERT, Ariz. — Julia Hand, junior goalkeeper from No. 5 Saint Anselm College, and Celeste Veenstra, sophomore forward from No. 3 East Stroudsburg University, have been named this week's NFHCA Division II Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week

Julia Hand, Saint Anselm College, Jr., Goalkeeper (Reading, Massachusetts)

Hand recorded two shutouts in a 2-0 week for No. 5 Saint Anselm College. Against Bentley University on Wednesday, she made two key saves in the final 90 seconds of the game to preserve the 1-0 win. Then on Saturday against No. 10 Adelphi University, Hand cleared away four shots to keep the Panthers off the board and secure the 4-0 win for the Hawks.

Hand was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.

NFHCA Division II Offensive Player of the Week

Celeste Veenstra, East Stroudsburg University, So., Forward (Alkmaar, The Netherlands)

Veenstra tallied 11 points last week, helping No. 3 East Stroudsburg to three wins and an undefeated 5-0 record. On Wednesday versus Molloy College, Veenstra recorded a goal in the 6-1 win. Then on Saturday, she recorded two goals and an assist in ESU's 3-0 win over Slippery Rock University. A day later, she added another two goals in the Warrior's 7-0 win over the University of Mount Olive.

Veenstra was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Field Hockey Athlete of the Week.
