GILBERT, Ariz. — Coming off a one-win weekend and with a 5-0 record, the University of North Carolina retains their number-one ranking in the second week of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
The Top Five
Duke University was voted second this week — the Blue Devils remain undefeated after wins this weekend over the University of California, Berkeley and No. 8 University of Iowa.
No. 3 University of Maryland claimed a victory over No. 5 University of Virginia at the Terrapin Invitational this past weekend — the Terps' 3-2 win came after two overtime periods and six shootouts.
Rounding out the top five is the University of Connecticut, who came in fourth this week with 1065 points.
Games to Watch
Conference play will begin this weekend for Division I teams, making almost every contest a "game to watch." But fans will want to stayed glued to the screen when No. 11 Northwestern University takes on No. 12 Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio to open Big Ten Conference play at 3:00 p.m. EST. Later in the day, closely ranked No. 17 Boston College and No. 18 Wake Forest University will kick off Atlantic Coast Conference play when they face off in Durham, North Carolina at 6:00 p.m. EST.
Then on Sunday, the No. 6 Princeton University Tigers will host No. 4 University of Connecticut in a midday contest. And at 1:00 p.m. EST, Drexel University will take on Temple University for the much-anticipated cross-city contest which will be hosted at Temple's Howarth Field.
