GILBERT, Ariz. — At the close of the 2019 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Annual Convention, the newly elected NFHCA Executive Board members officially took their seats. Joan Johnson, Jackie Kane and Katrina Ross are the three new board members who were elected last fall.
Mae Shoemaker, former second vice-president, and Tina Edmonds, former club coach representative, ended their terms after each serving four years on the Executive Board. "Mae and Tina were terrific advocates of the sport, provided valuable insight and served with pride during their tenure on the Executive Board," said NFHCA President, Marybeth Freeman. "We're incredibly grateful and thankful for their time and service to the organization."
Shoemaker and Edmonds' contributions to the sport will not end with the conclusion of their terms on the Board — Shoemaker will continue to coach at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in Acton, Massachusetts, where she just recently earned her 300th win, while Edmonds will continue as the head coach of the growing Texas Pride Field Hockey Club.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve on the NFHCA Executive Board," said Shoemaker. "It has given me the opportunity to give back to the sport I love and work with dedicated professionals to grow the game and support field hockey coaches and players. I enjoyed every minute of my tenure!"
Jackie Kane and Joan Johnson have filled Shoemaker and Edmonds' roles. Johnson, president of the Gaels Field Hockey Club and head coach of Chesapeake High School in Maryland, is the Board's new club coach representative, and Kane, head coach at Fairfield University, is the Board's new second vice-president.
"It is an honor and a privilege to serve on the Executive Board with such field hockey legends," noted Johnson. "I look forward to making an impact on the membership numbers for club coaches by helping them learn about and begin to appreciate the services, benefits and relationships that can come from being active members in the NFHCA."
"I am grateful for the opportunity to work on the Board of the NFHCA," said Kane. "Coming off the recent convention, there are many new ideas and plans for our sport put forth by our members. I am excited to be a part of this process."
The other new member to the Executive Board is Katrina Ross, who began her term as the high school representative before the 2019 NFHCA Annual Convention due to an immediate vacancy. "I am looking forward to working with our current membership and the Executive Board to move forward and grow our high school group into a thriving and engaged faction of our organization," said Ross.
Ross is the head field hockey coach at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Maryland.
"Jackie, Joan and Katrina are excited and eager to make their impact within their respective roles," said Freeman. "They will each use their voice and experience to generate new and innovative ideas while representing our organization in both a professional and positive way. We're thrilled to welcome each of them to the Board."
