Six athletes selected as Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Regional Players of the Year

GILBERT, Ariz. — Six student-athletes were selected to represent their respective regions as the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Regional Player of the Year.

Great Lakes Region Player of the Year

Michelle Kabaria, Denison University, So., Defender/Midfielder (Harare, Zimbabwe)

Kabaria, the two-time North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Defensive Player of the Year (2017, 2018), has been named the Longstreth/NFHCA Great Lakes Region Player of the Year after stellar season with Denison University. Her performances on attack and defense helped the Denison team to a NCAC tournament championship this year. In addition to NCAC First-Team honors, Kabaira was named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Great Lakes Region First Team last week.

New England East Region Player of the Year

Ashley Tango, Babson College, Sr., Midfielder (Reading, Massachusetts)

Tango, the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year, has been named the Longstreth/NFHCA New England East Region Player of the Year after a record-breaking season with the Babson College Beavers. In her senior season, Tango became one of only 17 players in Division III history to record more than 50 career goals and 50 career assists, giving her Babson College's all-time assist record. Tango was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team, the Longstreth/NFHCA New England East Region First Team and earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors this year.

New England West Region Player of the Year

Erin Nicholas, Middlebury College, So., Defender (Scarsdale, New York)

Nicholas, the 2018 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year, has been named the Longstreth/NFHCA New England West Region Player of the Year after an impactful season with Middlebury College, the 2018 NCAA National Champions. This season alone, Nicholas scored 17 goals and had 11 assists giving her 45 points, helping her team to a NESCAC Tournament Championship and a 21-1 record. Her performance garnered NESCAC Conference First-Team honors and a place on the Longstreth/NFHCA New England West Region First-Team list.

North Atlantic Region Player of the Year

Monica Feeley, Vassar College, Sr., Midfielder/Defender (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania)

Feeley, the 2018 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, has been named the Longstreth/NFHCA North Atlantic Region Player of the Year after a history-making season with Vassar College. In part due to Feeley's performance, Vassar College completed their 2018 campaign with their first Liberty League title. This year, Feeley tied for second in the Liberty League with seven defensive saves and led a defensive unit that posted 14 shutouts this season. Feeley was named to the All-Liberty League First Team and the Longstreth/NFHCA North Atlantic Region First Team. 

South Atlantic Region Player of the Year

Rachel Galante, Rowan University, Sr., Forward (Mount Laurel, New Jersey)

Galante, the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Year, has been named the Longstreth/NFHCA South Atlantic Region Player of the Year after a record-breaking season with Rowan University. Galante scored 30 goals this year which gave her Rowan's single-season goal record — with her eight assists, she also took the single-season points record as well. Galante's explosive offense played an important role in Rowan University's NJAC Tournament Championship and its run to the 2018 NCAA Championship semifinal game. Galante was named to the NJAC First Team and the Longstreth/NFHCA South Atlantic Region First Team.​

South Region Player of the Year

Grace Hillman, Johns Hopkins University, Sr., Midfielder (Stockton, New Jersey)

Hillman, the 2018 Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year, has been named the Longstreth/NFHCA South Region Player of the Year after a historic season for the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays. As the sole captain this year, Hillman led her team to the NCAA Championship semifinals for the first time in their program's history. Hillman was named to the Centennial Conference First Team and the Longstreth/NFHCA South Region First Team this year.

The Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Regional Players of the Year announcement is the second in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the Longstreth/NFHCA All-American teams (December 5) and the Longstreth/NFHCA National Collegiate Player of the Year (December 11).
