Byrnes, Petrantonio named Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Weekly Award winners

GILBERT, Ariz. — Tara Byrnes, a senior goalkeeper from Molloy College, and Jazmin Petrantonio, a sophomore attacker from No. 4 Shippensburg University, are this week's Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week

Tara Byrnes, Molloy College, Sr., Goalkeeper (Huntington, New York)

Byrnes finished the week with two shutouts to help Molloy College to an undefeated week. In Molly's 2-0 win over Mercy College on Thursday, Byrnes came up with four important saves during 70 minutes of action, she followed that performance with another shutout on Saturday, against Immaculata University, which she shared with teammate Tyler Hall. In 60 minutes on the pitch, Byrnes made six saves to keep the board clear for Molloy to win the contest, 6-0.

Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Offensive Player of the Week

Jazmin Petrantonio, Shippensburg University, So., Midfielder/Forward (Saenz Pena, Argentina)

In two victories this week, Petrantonio scored five goals — including both game-winning goals — and had three assists for 13 points. She began the week with a two-goal, two-assist performance in No. 4 Shippensburg's 11-0 victory over Seton Hill University. Against Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Petrantonio scored the first three Shippensburg goals, and then assisted on the last tally.

Entering this week of play, Petrantonio is tied with Stonehill's Kacie Smith for the nation's lead with 12 goals.

Kacie Smith, Stonehill College, Sr., Forward (Norwood, Massachusetts)

Smith scored four of No. 1 Stonehill College's eight goals in a 2-0 week. She was one of three goal scorers in Stonehill's 3-1 comeback win at American International College on Wednesday, and then netted her second hat trick of the year in Saturday's 5-0 win over Bentley University.
