GILBERT, Ariz. — The 2019 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Annual Convention will feature speakers David Passmore and Tracy Warren. Being a coach in 2018 requires more than just on-the-field teaching, and this year's Annual Convention speakers will reflect the needs of modern coaches. Passmore will focus on coach education and development and Warren, an attorney, will tackle "The Business of Being a Coach." This pair of experts will bring important insight and dynamic presentations to the convention.

David Passmore comes to Lake Mary, Florida after a successful year with Hockey Ireland: he worked with the Senior Women squad who just finished a historic run to the gold medal game of the 2018 FIH World Cup where they finished second and lead the Irish U23 and U21 teams as their head coach. Passmore's hockey credentials are numerous — a Federation International Hockey (FIH) Educator and Educator's Educator, a European Hockey Federation Top Coach Tutor and Mentor, an FIH High Performance Coach, and a Level 1, 2, and 3 Hockey Tutor and NVQ Assessor — he has coached field hockey at every level, from elite international men's and women's teams to youth national squads in both Ireland and Great Britain.

Passmore has a professional doctorate in elite performance from the University of Central Lancashire and a master's degree in Sports Coaching. He is currently an associate professor of coaching science at Dublin City University.

At the Annual Convention, Passmore's featured presentation, "Effectively Coaching Small-Sided Games" will start behind the podium and finish on the field where he will show coaches how to put his presentation into practice. He will also present "Reflective Practice" which will give coaches the tools to analyze themselves and their thoughts to inform and improve training sessions.

Tracy Warren returns to the NFHCA Annual Convention for a second time at the request of the membership. In 2016 Warren presented "Coaching Tools to Maintain Your Job: Legal Tips on Tackling Investigations, 86 Helicopter Parents, Administrators, and Terminations."

Warren, a shareholder at Buchalter law firm, represents both national and international clients in employment matters involving single plaintiff and class action defense.  She advises, counsels, trains and litigates in areas including wage and hour compliance, pay equity, sexual harassment, retaliation, terminations, hiring, leave of absence, reductions in force, employee discipline, workplace accommodations, religious exemption, NCAA bylaw compliance and other matters of legal compliance. Warren also serves as outside counsel to the National Association of Sports Commissions and Women Leaders in College Sports.

As a featured speaker at the 2019 NFHCA Annual Convention, Warren's presentation "The Business of Being a Coach," will focus on issues related to university, NCAA and school investigations in the coaching arena. She also will educate attendees on taking charge of their contract negotiations.

The 2019 NFHCA Annual Convention will be held in Lake Mary, Florida, from January 15 to January 17. Members and non-members of the NFHCA can register to attend. Discounted registration fees are available until December 31, 2018. Information about speakers, lodging, pricing and registration can be found on the 2019 NFHCA Annual Convention event page on nfhca.org.
