Middlebury College takes top spot on Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Preseason National Coaches Poll

GILBERT, Ariz. — Defending NCAA Division III national champion, Middlebury College, led the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Preseason National Coaches Poll taking the number one spot. Middlebury was followed by Messiah College who they faced in the NCAA championship game last year. The College of New Jersey took the third spot, with Franklin & Marshall College and Salisbury University taking the fourth and fifth places respectively.

The Division III field hockey season opens this Friday, August 31 with an 11:00 a.m. contest between Ferrum College and Oberlin College. This weekend will feature two top-20 matchups — on Friday, August 31, Kean University (No. 14) will take on Franklin & Marshall (No. 4) and Catholic University (No. 17) will face The College of New Jersey (No. 3) on Saturday, September 1.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, September 11. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.
