Shippensburg University takes top spot in Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Preseason National Coaches Poll

GILBERT, Ariz. — Defending Division II national champion, Shippensburg University decisively took the first-place station on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Preseason National Coaches Poll with 239 points and 18 first place votes. The Raiders were followed in the ranking by East Stroudsburg University who they met in the semifinal game of the NCAA tournament last year. LIU Post, Millersville University and West Chester University rounded out the top five, respectively.

The Division II season opens this Thursday, August 30 with a contest between conference rivals Newberry College and Belmont Abbey College. There will be one top-ten matchup this weekend with West Chester University (No. 5) visiting Stonehill College (No. 6) in a 12:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 1.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, September 11. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
