Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll - Oct. 17

GILBERT, Ariz. - After winning a matchup of top-ranked squads, Messiah once again came in as the overwhelming No. 1 squad in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Coaches Poll on Tuesday.

The Falcons defeated Division II No. 1 Shippensburg by a 4-0 final on Wednesday, and then won at Arcadia by a 3-0 score on Saturday. Messiah has a perfect 13-0 record this season and a 35-game winning streak dating back to last year. The Falcons totaled 1,000 points and 50 first-place votes to take the top ranking.

Middlebury edged up a slot to No. 2, followed by Babson at No. 3, The College of New Jersey at No. 4 and Christopher Newport at No. 5. The rest of the top ten included No. 6 Tufts, No. 7 Williams, No. 8 Salisbury, No. 9 Montclair State and No. 10 Amherst.

The bottom half of the poll included No. 11 Catholic, No. 12 Franklin & Marshall, No. 13 Kean, No. 14 MIT, No. 15 Hamilton, No. 16 York, No. 17 Skidmore, No. 18 Bowdoin, No. 19 Rochester and No. 20 Bates, a new entrant this week.

Seven games between top-20 squads are on this week's schedule, beginning with No. 9 Montclair State at No. 13 Kean on Tuesday. No. 8 Salisbury is at No. 16 York on Wednesday with No. 17 Skidmore at No. 19 Rochester on Friday. Saturday's slate includes No. 2 Middlebury at No. 20 Bates, No. 13 Kean at No. 4 College of New Jersey, No. 16 York at No. 5 Christopher Newport and No. 6 Tufts at No. 7 Williams.
