Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Weekly Award Winners Announced

GILBERT, Ariz. - Messiah senior forward Carissa Gehman and The College of New Jersey junior midfielder/defender Sidney Padilla have been selected as the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III weekly award winners for competition from Oct. 2-8, it was announced on Wednesday.

Honorable mention status went to The College of New Jersey senior forward Elizabeth Morrison, Middlebury senior forward Annie Leonard and Franklin & Marshall senior forward Sydney Cole.

Offensive Player of the Week

Carissa Gehman, Messiah Sr., F, Holtwood, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite

Gehman totaled seven goals and an assist to lead the top-ranked Falcons to two more victories last week. She notched two goals and an assist in a 6-1 win over Gettysburg on Wednesday, then accounted for all of her team's goals in a 5-1 triumph against Stevenson on Wednesday. The five-goal effort marked a program record as Gehman also notched her 200th career point in the contest.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sidney Padilla, The College of New Jersey Jr., M/D, Suffern, N.Y./Suffern

Padilla helped TCNJ to pair of shutouts last week, including a 3-0 blanking of Montclair State in a top-five matchup on Saturday. TCNJ allowed just four shots and two penalty corners in the contest. Padilla also notched a goal and two defensive saves in a 5-0 shutout of Rowan last Tuesday.

Honorable Mention

Elizabeth Morrison, The College of New Jersey Sr., F, Stonington, Conn./Stonington

Morrison had four goals in a pair of wins last week, with two in victories against both Rowan and then-No. 3 Montclair State.

Annie Leonard, Middlebury Sr., F, Darien, Conn./Greenwich Academy

Leonard notched a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win at then-No. 4 Tufts on Saturday, and scored twice in a 3-0 win over Wesleyan on Sunday.

Sydney Cole, Franklin & Marshall Sr., F, Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich

Cole had three goals and two assists in two games last week, with a two-goal, one-assist effort that included the game-winning tally in overtime in a 3-2 victory over Ursinus on Saturday.
